Cycling in Jersey

Cycling is well catered for on the island of Jersey. Whether you prefer a leisurely route or more of a challenge, exploring Jersey on two wheels enables you to take in the beautiful scenery and rich heritage of the island. Although the largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey is still compact at nine by five miles, making it possible for cyclists to travel around easily.

Jersey has an extensive island wide cycle network of over 350 miles should you really wish to cover every area in depth, taking in everything from the rugged northern cliffs to the pretty flower meadows. However the best news for cyclists has to be the wonderful ‘Green Lanes’ which exist in all but two of the islands twelve parishes. Introduced in 1994 and taking in both coastal and inland routes, Green Lanes consist of 50 miles of designated signposted lanes where priority is given to walkers, cyclists and horse riders with the speed being limited to 15 mph. Maps and guides have been especially designed by local cyclists, featuring recommended routes and itineraries, refreshment shops, historic sites and attractions.Designed for novice riders who may require a clear route around the town there is also a Town Cycle Network incorporating a number of radial routes centred around Liberation Square in St Helier. Many cycling events take place on Jersey each year, such as the Tour de Jersey which raises money for Jersey Hospice care, suitable for all ages and levels of ability.Naturally there are many cycle maps and guide routes available as well as guided tours and if you don’t bring your own bike then Jersey is the perfect place to hire a bike and explore the scenery uninhibited. Helmets are recommended for adults and children will need a well fitted one and so you may want to think about bringing your own. Cycle locks, lights and bells are often included in bike hire but remember to bring yours if using your own bike. A word of warning though; sand and sea can damage paintwork and you may lose your deposit if you take a hire bike onto the beach. It is also not recommended to lock bikes up anywhere near the sea as tides can come in very quickly!Cycle Tours

Available all year round. Routes can be specially tailored for groups with a choice of gradient, length and sites of interest. Take a guided cycle tour in the natural beauty of Jersey’s renowned cycle network. This has to be the best way of seeing our beautiful Island.Bike Hire & Cycle Tours
