Jersey Beaches And BaysThere is such a variety of beaches and bays surrounding the island that there is something for everyone on this beautiful island, from picturesque fishing harbours where local fisherman will be landing crabs, lobsters, bass and mackerel from their small fishing boats and quaysides lined with quaint houses, café`s, restaurants and bars.Quiet and sheltered beaches providing ideal suntraps for those just wishing to relax and unwind, whilst there is plenty to do for young children that want to play in the golden sands, build sandcastles or explore the rocks and rock pools for marine wildlife activity. There is also a chance to see playful dolphins if you are lucky and plenty of small coves, caves and the occasional waterfall to explore if you have time. The panoramic views from the bays and surrounding coastal paths are spectacular and perfect as a picture postcard to send back to friends and family at home, for the more romantic maybe a coastal walk or a stroll along the promenades at Havre Des Pas, St Brelades or to the thriving villages of Gorey and St Aubin where there are plenty of Café`s, Restaurants, Gift Shops, local markets and the occasional game of Beach Volleyball taking place at the Gunsite slip along the route to St Aubin’s Bay. Sample the culture of the island at St Catherines where Jersey`s very own sandman displays his sandcastle creationsFor the more sporty and active there is an array of water sports and beach sports on offer around the island including surfing, body boarding, snorkelling, diving and jet skiing and huge expanses of sand for beach sports like football and cricket. For motor racing fans we have our own venue at Bouley Bay, with three hill climbs a year including an international event, drawing large crowds to experience the thrills (and hopefully no spills!). Swimming is generally safe around the beaches and bays with appropriate signage and lifeguards patrolling some for added safety. There is also a unique Victorian swimming pool to discover which holds the sea water from the outgoing tide.If local history is of interest there are legends of witchcraft and smuggling to hear about as you journey around the bays including “Jeffrey`s Leap” and “The Black Dog”, stone age and iron age remnants and historical landmarks such as the 13th century Mont Orgueil castle, Martello Towers, Corbiere Lighthouse and German fortifications from the second world war, you can even take a stroll out to Elizabeth Castle or St Aubin`s Fort when the tide is outFor the disabled there are Beach Ability ballooned wheelchairs for use at some of the beaches around the island and there are good bus links to get to the bay of your choice, so come and join us on an island adventure and make the most out of your island holiday. The chairs roll over sand, stones and slipways with ease and are available for anyone who needs help with their mobility.
