Among the churches, lanes and landscapes of Grouville are numerous but often overlooked reminders of the parish’s wartime history. Discover this fascinating past with historian Ian Ronayne including wartime valour and sacrifice, German railways and rifle ranges, Occupation stone crushers and quarrying. Among locations visited will be the National Trust managed Grouville Marsh, once home to a wartime labour camp and important site of peat extraction for occupied Islanders.

Length: Three miles, three hours

Grade: Easy: mostly pavements, roads and prepared paths. Comfortable walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing advisable.
