Situated In The Sunning Bay Of St Ouen on Jersey`s West Coast, The Channel Islands Military Museum Opened To The Public On The 29th May 1989 And Quickly Established Itself As One Of The Islands Leading Visitor Attractions. The Museum Is Housed In A Concrete Bunker That Actually Formed Part Of Hitler`s Much Vaunted Atlantic Wall Defences Sitting As It Does Right On The Sea Wall. It Charts The Years Of Nazi Occupation From 1940 – 1945, One Of The Darkest, Yet Important Periods In The History Of Jersey, From Both A Military And Social Perspective.During The Years Of Occupation, The Bunker Would Have Accommodated A Crew Of 12 Servicemen, Who Would Have Manned A 10.5cm Gun In The Event Of An Enemy Landing On The Beach. Now It Exhibits The Finest Jersey Occupation Related Collection That There Is To See Anywhere.Displayed Within The Museum Is An Extensive Range Of Military Items That Give An Insight Into The Historical Truth, That Jersey Was One Of The Most Heavily Fortified Areas In The Entire Third Reich. This Is Balanced By The Varied And Extensive Collection Of Items, That Give A Flavour Of What Life Would Have Been Like For The Long Suffering Population, Living Under Military Rule.Of Much Interest To Visitors To The Museum Is The Original, And Still Operational Enigma 3 Encryption Machine. The Breaking Of The Enigma Code Was So Instrumental In The Outcome Of The Second World War. The Machine On Display Was Used By The Occupying Forces In Jersey. The Museum Serves To Further The Appreciation And Understanding Of Our History, And Looks Forward To Welcoming You Through Our Doors.
Admission is £5 an adult and £3 a child. On a normal year we open the Monday before Good Friday and close at the end of October.
