Sanctuary Trust

The charity comprises of Sanctuary House, a registered care home and Sanctuary Lodge, a next-step facility for men who are more ready to move back into society and who benefit from a less formal environment.  

The men supported by the charity can have a range of issues including economic hardship, domestic violence, mental health issues, family/relationship breakdown or addiction issues.

The charity doesn’t just provide a bed and a hot meal, it also provides hope, support & guidance and works closely with external agencies such as: Alcohol and Drugs, Mental Health, Social Security, Silkworth Lodge, Citizen’s Advice and Health & Social Services. An outreach service is also on offer for men in the community.

Work with the prison service and probation to provide accommodation and work programmes for former prisoners and those on licence is also ongoing. 

All the residents are encouraged to work in community projects and help is given to find paid and voluntary employment. Most importantly though, the residents are always listened to and always have somebody to talk to.

Sanctuary trust helps residents develop self-esteem and life skills and encourages respect at all times.

Each year, the charity holds an annual fundraising event called ‘Walk into Light’, which starts at 4.30am from Corbiere with walkers reaching St Aubin at daybreak.

The event takes place in April and in 2019 over 300 people joined the walk raising over £10,000 to support the homeless.
